We are pleased to continue the tradition of the Rice Cooking Contest hosted by the City of Katy Fussell Senior Center.

Calling all amateur chefs! Join the fun and showcase your culinary skills at the Katy Rice Harvest Festival Rice Cooking Contest. This event is open to cooks of all ages who love to experiment with RICE as their main ingredient. Bring your best dish for a chance to win great prizes and bragging rights!

Key Dates:

• Event Date: Saturday, October 4 

• Dish Drop-Off Time: by 10:00am

• Location: VFW Museum: 6206 George Bush Dr., Katy, TX

• Judging Time: 11:00am

Entry Guidelines:

• Open to all amateur chefs (no professional chefs, restaurant operators, or dietitians).

• Two age categories: Adult (18+), Student (high school or younger).

• One dish per contestant.

• Dishes must be prepared at home and brought in a disposable aluminum pan, at serving temperature.

• Each pan must be labeled with the dish’s title.

• Submit your recipe with the entry form, including ingredients, preparation, and cooking instructions.

• No registration fee.​​

Recipe Requirements:

• The primary ingredient must be rice.

• Dishes should serve approximately 20 people.

• Dishes must be covered, labeled, and brought in a disposable aluminum pan.

• Bowls and utensils will be provided.

• Include serving suggestions with your dish.

Judging Criteria:

• Judging Time: 11:00am

• Entries will be judged based on: Taste, Texture, Creativity, & Overall impression

• Awards: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for each age category, plus a People’s Choice Award (based on guest votes).
